The peaceful end SARS protest in Enugu took a turn for the worse on Wednesday as bonfires at road junctions hindered commuters from proceeding to their desired destinations.
Tension filled the air and young men were seen carrying sticks, barricading some roads with tires and tree trunks.
The Phase 6 Trans Ekulu Police Station at Zion Avenue was burnt, dust bins hauled out of its position on to the road, traffic light destroyed and shattered glasses littered the roads.

In his view, a popular Disc Jockey in the state, Mr Goodnoize revealed to The West African Pilot, “the endsars protest has been hijacked by miscreants because the youths who had participated in the protest all these while had shown responsibility and patriotism to the state and nation at large,”
“the end sars protesters complied to the rules governing civil protest, hence juxtaposing their actions for weeks now and the destructive nature of today’s mayhem, I can only say that it must be miscreants at work,” he concluded.
Concurring with Goodnoize’s assertion, the Enugu State Government stated that the peaceful #Endsarsprotest has been hijacked by miscreants who plan to unleash mayhem.
The statement was signed by Aroh Nnanyelugo, Commisioner for Information who revealed the government’s decision to impose a 24hour curfew in three Local Government Areas.
“His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State has ordered the imposition of 24-hour curfew in Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas of Enugu State with effect from 7pm today, Wednesday, 21st October, 2020”.
He further revealed that the imposed curfew in the above mentioned LGAs will remain till further notice.
Aroh then called on parents and guardians to desist from any unlawful conduct while urging the youths in Enugu State to remain calm and law abiding.
Recall that Enugu state Governor while addressing protesters a couple of days back had promised to set up a judicial panel of inquiry on police brutality and related Extra-judicial killings.
The panel was constituted Wednesday afternoon, Aroh revealed.
