The governor of Anambra State; Chief Willie Obiano has concluded plans to present the Anambra 2021 budget to the House of Assembly today, for consideration by the House.

It will be recalled that the governor had before the #EndSARS protest erupted, wanted to present the budget, but reconsidered it because of the mood of the country, as at that time.

However, the Anambra state 2021 budget which effectively is the last full budget for the administration of Governor Willie Obiano will be presented to the 30 members of Anambra State House of Assembly, at the plenary, today.

Hon. Pharm. Obinna Emeneka who spoke to us earlier on today’s budget presentation is the Chairman of Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation. According to Hon. Obinna, the 2020 budget performance has been encouraging despite the COVID-19 pandemic and he is hopeful the 2021 budget will be better.

“The criterion of assessing a budget passed by the House is performance…this year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that crashed the economy globally; in Anambra state, the Anambra state revised budget of 2020 was reduced by 16% compared to the initial budget”. Notwithstanding, “The unaudited performance (of the 2020 budget) is  close to 50% between January and June and we still have June to December, so what it means is that we may be heading to 70 or 80% performance with the 2020 budget, despite the global pandemic”, Hon. Obinna Emeneka concluded.
