The Enugu State Ministry of Health in response to the unusual deaths in Ette Uno and Umuopu communities in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA have collected samples from affected persons and sent to the National Reference Laboratory for investigation.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Commissioner for Health, Ikechukwu Obi on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
“The attention of the State Ministry of Health was drawn to the event of alleged alleged unusual deaths in Ette Uno and Umuopu communities in Enugu Ezike town in Igbo-Eze North LGA of Enugu which shares a boundary with Kogi State,” Obi wrote.
The Commissioner added, ‘the State Ministry of Health Rapid Response Team has visited Igbo-Eze North LGA and met with the LGA Rapid Response Team.
“On-the-spot-check and outbreak investigation have revealed a number of deaths from an illness with symptoms suggestive of a disease of Public Health Importance,” the Commissioner disclosed.
Dr. Obi further stated that the Ministry of Health has informed the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, of the urgent health concerns and both agencies collaborating at the affected LGA to investigate and control the reports.
“We will keep informing the general public on emerging facts,” the Commissioner promised.
