To contain the outbreak of yellow fever in the state, the Enugu State Government has commenced mass vaccination of residents in Ette and Umuopu communities in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area and fumigation of both communities against the vector with the appropriate chemicals.
The exercise was led by the Commissioner of Health, Dr Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi and the Chief Fire Officer of the Enugu State Fire Service, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa and their team.
A statement signed by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi discloses that the state government in addition to the mass vaccination and area fumigation has begun Active Case Surveillance to obtain necessary information on the epidemic for further decision making; embarked on Risk Communication in the affected Communities;
Activated the Enugu State Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Centre for Yellow Fever and formally notified the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and the National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre for a sustained response since Yellow Fever has also been reported in other states in Nigeria.

Dr. Obi further added that the government has prepositioned General Hospital Ogrute Enugu-Ezike and commenced treatment, with Ambulance Service for emergency.
The Commissioner however advices the public, “If you have been recently vaccinated against Yellow Fever, you do not need to be vaccinated again,”
“Yellow Fever is transmitted through mosquito bites, thus remove its breeding sites around you and visit a nearby hospital if feeling unwell”.
Dr Obi then expressed gratitude to the Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Presidents General of Town Unions, other stakeholders and the good people of Enugu State who have in so many ways contributed to the expedited response to the epidemic in Enugu State.
