The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) has expended forty-six million naira (N46m) for the procurement of face masks, sanitizers, and other items and distributed same across the 22 Local Government Areas for use in primary schools.
The Executive Chairman of the Board Alhaji Salihi Ibrahim Ateequ disclosed this in an interview with West African Pilot News said the money was released to the board by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as part of a measure to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Adamawa State.
He explained that all Education Secretaries in 21 local governments and other critical stakeholders in the education sector were sensitized and handbills on the consequences of neglecting the protocols of COVID-19 were distributed to them.
Because we make sure that the social distancing is observed, the handwashing buckets, the sanitizers, the face mask are always there in schools, and to the best of my knowledge, we did not have any case of one single case of outbreak of COVID- nineteen in schools.
He said classes were divided into sessions to provide extra classes to have social distances, as some pupils now attend classes from Mondays to Wednesday, while others from Thursday to Saturday to cover the number of time loss.
Every stakeholder has a responsibility and teachers must enforce the COVID-19 rules and these can be done when teachers too wear face masks and adhere to protocols of COVID-19.
There has to be a synergy between Community, parents, and teachers to ensure children comply with the covid-19 protocols until the disease is no longer a threat. He said
Ateequ said the state was divided into three zones to monitor compliance of COVID-19 protocols in schools as part of an effort to fight the disease.
