The Enugu State Government on Tuesday handed over four rapid response vehicles and a 12,000-liter capacity water tanker procured for the Fire Service for effective fire-fighting operations in the state.

Handing over the utility vehicles to the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, disclosed the state governments earlier interventions in the fire service.

Rapid response vehicles and a 12,000-liter capacity water tanker procured for the Fire Service for effective fire-fighting operations in Enugu state.

“In recognition of the importance of an effective and efficient fire service in safeguarding lives and property, the state Government constructed five ultra-modern fire service stations across the three senatorial districts of the state,”

“Also, five IVM fire-fighting trucks were also procured for the five fire service stations,” the SSG disclosed.

“The new rapid response vehicles and the water tanker handed over to the agency today is timely in view of the harmattan season and fire outbreaks common in this season,”

“It is therefore, to the glory of God and in the interest of our state and humanity that I, on behalf of His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, inaugurate these rapid response vehicles and perform the formal hand over of these vehicles to the Enugu State Fire Service”, Prof. Ortuanya said.

Responding, the Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Ohaa expressed the agency’s deep appreciation to Gov. Ugwuanyi for equipping the fire service with the essential equipment for their services.

“Never a time had we received such support as this as these vehicles will ensure that we discharge our duties effectively, professionally and efficiently”,Ohaa applauded the state Government.

Ohaa then promised the state government and residents of the State that the fire-fighting agency will do her best to protect lives and property of the people.

The Chief Fire Officer had earlier in the day led his team to Ogbete Main Market, Enugu and Timber Market on a public enlightenment and sensitization campaign on how to prevent fire outbreak during this dry season.

Reiterating the agency’s preparedness in the event of any fire outbreak or emergency in Enugu State, the Chief Fire Officer disclosed “the essence of the fire safety enlightenment campaign is to re-awaken safety consciousness and precautions in the people’s mind as the dry season is here”.

“It is pertinent that qualified technicians and engineers are engaged for electrical installations in buildings while those travelling out of their station should endeavor to switch off all electrical appliances,”Ohaa advised.

Ohaa then disclosed that a mini fire-fighting truck is currently stationed at Ogbete Main Market Enugu by the agency.
