President Muhammadu Buhari will soon be addressing the house of representatives over insecurity, according to Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker.

The president had been invited by the lower legislative chamber of the national assembly.

Speaking at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Gbajabiamila said he met with the president over the issue.

Gbajabiamila told state house correspondents that the date for the presidential address has been agreed upon and will be disclosed soon.

“And what we basically sought is to convey the resolution of the house and to fix a date, which we did not fix out of respect for Mr. President and his very tight schedule, what date will be convenient. We have agreed on a date and he will meet with the house to address the situation,” he said.

“He’s is a perfect democrat. He will come and address the House in the nearest future.”

The speaker said Buhari is more concerned about the trend of things in the country, assuring Nigerians that the president is committed to the security of lives and property.

On Tuesday, during a  plenary session, the green chamber resolved to summon Buhari to speak on efforts being made to tackle the nation’s growing security challenges.

Though some of the lawmakers including the speaker argued that the president’s presence was not needed, others said the recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents which led to the murder of over 40 farmers shows the need for the president to appear before the lawmakers.
