The acting Eje of Ankpa in Ankpa local government area of Kogi state, Shuaibu Usman was kidnapped by an outlaw while observing prayers in the Mosque on Friday.
Addressing the incident, Ayuba Ede, the state commissioner of police, said the suspected kidnappers laid an ambush at the mosque before the abduction.
He also said they are yet to make any contact with the family, but added that the police have cordoned off all entry and exit points in the state, with the aim of rescuing the traditional ruler.
Kingsley Fanwo, the state commissioner for information, also said efforts are on to ensure that the traditional ruler is rescued safely.
“The state government is working with security agencies to ensure his release,” Fanwo said.
“The Kogi state government has also put machinery in motion to ensure that even more stringent security network during this yuletide.
“The people of Ankpa should remain calm as the government is on top of the situation. We remain committed to security of lives and property.”
