Tension over insecurity is rising among locals in Kastina state as conflict and violence continue unabated.

About 48 persons were abducted within the past two days in an attack that cuts across four communities in Batsari LGA, Kastina state.

Unknown gunmen had stormed the villages, looting and abducting the locals.

Yasir Aminu, a resident of Garin Dodo, one of the four communities, said the gunmen had struck his village and kidnapped over 30 people in the past few days.

He noted that some of his community members have relocated to safe havens out of fear for their lives.

“The group invaded our village in the last two days and abducted more than 30 people. Most of our people have relocated to unknown places. They are attacking us every day but this particular one was very bad,” he said.

These communities are reported to have suffered a spate of attacks in the last three months.

“In Tudun Modi village, three persons were abducted while five persons were also abducted at Watangadiya village,” said a villager (name withheld).

“Bandits are running riot in the area because the people in the area are left at the mercy of criminal elements.”

Also, an eye withness stated that a newly wedded couple was abducted in Bakon Zabo, a three kilometers away village from Batsari township.

“ The group kidnapped the newly married couples 24 hours after their wedding Fatiha,” said Hassan Fari, an eyewitness.

He said the group has not made any contact with regard to demanding ransom, adding that no effort has been made by security agencies to rescue the victims.
