Don Davis, the JSS 1 student who was sexually abused in college has shared his unpleasant experience with fellow students and staff in Deeper Life High school, Akwa Ibom.

Two weeks ago, his mother, Deborah Okezie had called out the school in a Facebook post, alleging that some senior students in the college had habitually molested and starved him.

The 11-year-old boy who was admitted into the school in October, shortly after the ban on schools and public spaces was lifted by the state government returned home in December looking pale and terrified.

Sharing his ordeal in school, Don Davis explained that the hostel master, Mr. Akpan had first taken to mercilessly flogging and starving him for bedwetting shortly after he was admitted.

The victim said the hostel would flog him for bedwetting and starve him by denying access to the meal served in the dining hall.

“Mr. Akpan uses belt, iron, stick, stone, or anything within reach on me because I bed wet. He flogged me mercilessly for bedwetting. Once, other staff had to come to my rescue.

Sometimes, when I go to the dining hall for a meal, the hostel master will send me back or ask me to go fetch something from the hostel so that there will be nothing left for me to eat when I get back. I eat coke and doughnut most times,” he said.

However, his scariest moments came after he was moved to the dormitory that housed senior students.

According to him, this was done on the order of the school principal, Ndidi Solomon. After he was moved, two SS 1 students began to molest him.

“Soon, I was moved to from the junior to the seniors’ dormitory. The principal authorised the transfer.

“Two boys named Ola and Shalom started to molest me. They will ask me to bend my back, put their hands in my anus, bring out faeces, and beat me afterward. This usually happens late at night when everyone is asleep.

“The act gave me a strange feeling but I was too scared to report to anyone. The boys threatened to kill me if I report them,”

Don Davis also said he developed a very bad odour while in school because the seniors prohibited him from using the bathroom.

“I didn’t bathe for two weeks because juniors are usually not allowed to use the seniors’ hostel,” he added.

The Commissioner For Information, Ini Ememobong in a statement disclosed that Don Davis has been moved to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Akwa Ibom for further medical investigation while investigation of the incident is been conducted by the police.

Organisations such as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking, Mirabelle Centre, FIDA Akwa Ibom, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Response Unit of the Ministry of Justice, Akwa Ibom State have shown interest in the case.
