ENUGU —  Dr. Okechukwu Ossai, Administrator of Enugu State Hospital Management Board, says the board has effectively checked absenteeism and truancy among health workers in the State.

Ossai told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday that the board was able to achieve the feat in 2020 through its “intensified monitoring and supportive supervising system’’.

“We were able to achieve this among health workers and other auxiliary staff in the 56 general and cottage hospitals owned by the state government.

“The board used constant daily interaction; enlightenment and education to get most of the health workers to change their attitude towards work for the better.

“With this development, anytime you visit our health facilities you usually meet the workers on duty.

“Presently, we have increased activities and vibrancy in our health facilities,’’ he said.

Ossai said the board would continue with its intensified monitoring and supportive supervising system in 2021the to ensure between 95 per cent and 99 per cent active attendance by all health workers.

“Our intensified monitoring and supportive supervising system is already working and we are going to improve on it to achieve our set target for 2021,’’ he said.

He said that the board was also able to organise in-house training for health workers in various facilities in 2020 where the need to have a positive work attitude was emphasised. (NAN)
