AWKA  —  Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, a frontline aspirant for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 6, Anambra Governorship poll, has described the demise of a former boss of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mr. Ben Egbuna, as a great loss to Nigeria’s media industry.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Sunday, Ezeemo, who is also the publisher of the Orient Daily Newspaper, said the news of the death of Egbuna has left him devastated as he had assisted him tremendously since he started his ambition to govern Anambra about 11 years ago.
He said “It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the death of Mr. Ben Egbunna, former Executive Director, News, VON, and former Director-General, FRCN.
“I am shocked, sad, and extremely pained at the passing of this true Veteran in the Nigeria media industry, who was one of the shining lights of VON, FRCN during his time as Director News and a great achiever.
“I remember with fondness my time with him during my last Political outing and his consciousness to give his best at every point.
“Indeed, I am blessed by the opportunity to have known and associated with him,” Ezeemo said.
While eulogising late media boss, Ezeemo, who single-handedly built and donated to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) its one-story building in  Anambra secretariat complex, popularly called “Godwin Ezeemo Press Centre”, said that “Mr. Ben Egbuna left remarkable legacies with his work in the media industry in Nigeria as an example to many striving to make a greater impact in the Media industry,” he said.
He prayed God to grant the soul of Mr. Egbuna an eternal rest and condoled the immediate family members of the deceased, Nigeria media practitioners, VON, FRCN as well as the entire People of Avomimi Village in Enugwu Ukwu, Anambra, where Egbuna hailed from.
NAN reports that Mr. Osita Egbuna, head of the Egbuna family, made the disclosure of the death of his brother.
The late media icon would be mourned by his wife, Betty, four children, and other relatives.
