Not less than 42 people, including 27 students, are yet to be found after gunmen attacked Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, Niger State.
The Niger State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Muhammad Idris, said this. He added that the whereabout of three teachers were as well unknown.
According to Idris, 12 family members of the teachers were also kidnapped during the attack.
He added that one student, whose identity is yet to be known, was killed.
“They kidnapped 42 people from the school. They took away 27 students, along with three teachers. They also kidnapped 12 family members of the teachers,” he told AFP by phone.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the abduction in a statement on Wednesday, he had ordered a rescue operation but did not comment on the number of missing students.
His position was known in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu. He said, “The President has directed the Armed Forces and Police, to ensure immediate and safe return of all the captives.”
Buhari urged the Nigeria’s security forces “to do all that can be done to bring an end to this saga, and avoid such cowardly attacks on schools in the future.”
