During its last sitting for the first quarter of this legislative year yesterday, the Anambra State House of Assembly announced that the Assembly will proceed on Easter recess. This is coming barely two months after the Christmas break, as it would be recalled that the Assembly had resumed sitting on the 19th day of January 2021.

The House commenced its business for the day, with a valedictory session in honour of her former member who just passed away. It is customary for former or sitting members of the Assembly, to be paid the last respect at the plenary before they are interred. This was the case yesterday when Late Hon. Engr. Chukwuma Ezeani who represented Anaocha II constituency in the 2nd Assembly, between 1999 and 2003, was paid the last respect at the plenary.

Late Hon. Ezeani’s final appearance at the Chamber of Anambra Assembly was followed by other business of the day which saw to the second reading of “A Bill for a law for the establishment of Magistrate Court in Anambra State”. After the second reading was passed, the bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Judiciary, under the chairmanship of Hon. Barr. Douglas Nwachukwu Egbuna.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, then adjourned the House, to reconvene on the 20th of April, 2021.
