An Islamic Faith-Based Organization, Initiative for Muslim Women in Nigeria (IMWON) Adamawa state chapter, on Sunday distributed food items and clothes to 130 orphans and vulnerable in Yola North and Yola South local government areas of Adamawa state as part of annual activities of the organization.

The orphans lost their parents either by death or conflicts.

In her message to the occasion, the wife of the Adamawa state Governor Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Hajiya Hauwa Koloni applauded the foresight of the founders of the organization and pledged her support at all times to the activities of the organization.

In her speech, the State Amirah of the association, Hajiya Asma’u Aliyu Abubakar who gave an overview on the formation of the organization which has its headquarters in Kaduna explained that the presentation was part of activities of the association assisting orphans and vulnerable in the society.

“The numbers of orphans are on the increase on daily basis due to conflicts, noted that majority of the orphans came from poor family background and called on the wealthy individual in the society to assist the orphans in any form”, Asma’u added.

Mallam Yakubu Numan who spoke on “Neigbourhood” identified struggle for leadership, selfishness and pompousness as some of the factors that bring barrier to good neighborliness and urged Muslims to cultivate the habit of being a good neighbour.

“Islam is a complete way of life, Muslims should always conduct themselves based on the tenets of the religion for a better society”, He said.

Mallam Ismail Ilyasu Demsawo who spoke on the “essence of helping the orphans” reminded Muslims on the benefits of assisting orphans, saying “it is not their wish to be without parents, because it can happen to any children and stressed the need for people to extend hands of fellowship to them”.

He stated that disciples of Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him were known for competing on doing good things and assisting one another, contrary to the attitude of people nowadays who only compete for worldly materials.

Malama Maryam in her remark drew the attention of women to be humble to their husbands and respect the views of other fellow women and as well assist anyone regardless of his or her belief.

“Women should seek knowledge for them to undertake anything perfectly and follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him in all their daily affairs”, she said.

Earlier, the State Secretary of the Organization, Hajiya Hadiza Dauda said the distribution was made possible through the contributions from members and other individuals, saying doors of the organization is open for anyone wishing to assist the Orphans or vulnerable.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the gesture and pray Allah to reward the association and those who assisted them with other means of livelihood.
