Despite the growing insecurity and the ravaging violence, a peaceful and stable climate can still be visualized for Nigeria according to the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo shared his optimism for Nigeria on Wednesday during the 108th annual convention of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), in Lagos state.
He ascertained he is of the belief that Nigeria will overcome the challenges.
“On the situation, we are in the country, I am an incurable optimist about a number of things, particularly about Nigeria,” Obasanjo said.
“The situation in Nigeria threatening but we won’t be consumed by it.
“Keep praying that the situation will only be threatening, but we won’t be overcome by it.”
Insecurity has been one of the most threatening and complex issues in Nigeria, particularly in the last decade as multiple conflicts continue to expose citizens to the risk of getting killed or displaced.
Violence in affected zones has managed to stay on an operational tempo, despite funding and the heavy presence of security operatives tasked with restoring peace and maintaining law.
Boko Haram insurgent was rated Africa’s deadliest terrorist group and is responsible for the death of over 37,500 people.
The United Nations Children’s Fund also reported that the group has kidnapped more than 1,000 children in northwestern in the last decade.
