ENUGU — The Commissioner of Police Enugu, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu has called on eyewitnesses of the unfortunate dastardly act by a police officer on Sunday to volunteer useful information to aid swift conclusion of the investigation and ensure justice prevails.
The CP ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (State CIID), to carry out a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sporadic shooting incident.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer Enugu State Command, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the police officer was on duty at RC Lotto Company located in the Golf Estate GRA, Enugu;
The trigger happy police Inspector is attached to Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 9, Umuahia, Abia State.
“He has been arrested and taken into custody pending the conclusion of the investigation”.
He also confirmed that four persons that sustained gunshot injuries are receiving treatment while five others have been confirmed dead by doctors on duty at the Enugu State Teaching hospital Parklane; the corpses are deposited in the mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has visited the hospitalized victims.
Ugwuanyi saddened by the incident on his people promised to pay the hospital bills of the victims while calling on the Nigerian Police force to ensure justice prevails.
Gov. Ugwuanyi was received at the hospital by the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu and the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Hyacinth Onah.
