OPOBO — Mr. Erastus Awortu, Chairman, of Andoni Local government Area Council in Rivers has lauded Gov. Nyesom Wike’s political will on infrastructure development in the State.
Awortu made the remark in Opobo town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro local government area during the commissioning of the newly constructed Ogoni-Opobo/Nkoro unity road in Rivers.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalled that Opobo/Nkoro, a riverine area that shared a common boundary with Andoni Local Area Council had over the years suffered the challenge of transportation due to lack of roads in the area.
The area had also recorded years of economic stagnation and insecurity occasioned by lack of social infrastructure until the present administration promised to bring succour to the area
.As a measure towards equitable distribution of developmental projects across the state, the governor in 2020 vowed to fastrack the unity road project which is expected to link the area to the urban centre.
Awortu during the historic commissioning of the road lauded the governor for his political will and courage.
“This investment is huge, the project will go a long way to boosting the local economy and livelihood of the area.
“The governor by his achievement in the area of infrastructure development has demonstrated his verse political will and selflessness for the state
“Only a selfless administrator can channel such huge state resources to people-oriented projects such as this.
“We are also hopeful that just like our neighbours in Opobo/Nkoro, the Andoni axis of the road will witness speedy completion too,” he said.
The local government boss also assured the people’s commitment to the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
