ENUGU –-Nineteen critically ill persons and seven dead bodies were discovered at the early hours of Friday at the livestock market popularly known as New Artisan market situated along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, near NNPC Mega Filling station.

The Chairman of the Livestock Market, Alhaji Danladi Abubarkar, disclosed that all the affected persons were stooling and vomiting.

“Residents of the market woke up to discover seven dead bodies, four men and three women,” Abubarkar revealed.

He further disclosed, “We shall soon proceed to the cemetery to bury the Muslims among the dead while the Christians will be taken by their relations.”

Others in critical condition are admitted in Enugu State Teaching Hospital, Parklane.

Speaking to West African Pilot News correspondent, a medical consultant disclosed that the cases were suspected cholera cases.

Recall that the Enugu State House of Assembly had moved a motion of urgent public importance urging the Enugu State Government to demolish and evacuate the New Artisan Market which Okwu Chinedu members representing Aninri constituency described as worse than Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible.

Amongst other concerns of Okwu, was the deplorable and unhygienic state of the market which was more of a hideout zone for highly dreaded criminal activities, drug dealers, breeding of hooligans/terrorists, the housing of Almajiris, prostitution centre/human trafficking, cultist activities and other vices.
