NNEWI — The Chairman of Agbo-Edo New Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association (AMPSDA), popularly known as Motor parts Nkwo Nnewi, Anambra State, Bro Dennis Ikegwuonu has described the Scholarship Scheme recently announced by the C.E.O. of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Dr. Innocent Chukwuma as a good development and a humanitarian gesture which will boost the entire Uru community educationally, create bright future for Uru Children and lead to the growth of Nigerian economy because a well-educated person is exposed to projects and innovations that will shape the entire society. The scheme is for admission into any tertiary institution in Nigeria.
Bro. Ikegwuonu who was appointed the chairman of the Scholarship Committee by the benefactor, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma is also the Chairman of his kindred; Umuokpalegom family meeting Uru Umudim Nnewi (the beneficiary of the scheme) expressed delight that his brother, Dr. Chukwuma has shown an extraordinary gesture to their kindred. He said the entire kindred is excited including their wives and children so this exemplary gesture has showcased Dr. Chukwuma as his real brother’s keeper. Others might see their brothers crying, instead of wiping his tears, they will leave him and go outside and start searching and asking where an outsider is crying, let them wipe their tears. “In fact, the summary of this is that charity begins at home,” Bro Ikegwuonu said, “Our brother is a man of fidelity, he is not like others that will promise and fail.” Bro. Ikegwuonu mage the remarks in the presence of Dr. Chukwuma’senior brother, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma (Gabros).
He remarked that the scheme has taken effect in earnest, “it is automatic, it has started, parents have started consulting me and those eligible to apply are prospective students of tertiary institutions namely polytechnics, colleges of education, universities or any other institute after secondary education. Other criteria for selecting beneficiaries.”
“First, the person must be a child of Umuokpalegom kindred, well behaved without record of social vices like alcoholism, drug addiction, cultism, thuggery, or other criminal activities.”
According to Ikegwuonu, the first step is to interview the prospective beneficiary (the student) because a prospective beneficiary is expected to have passion for education. Also, indigent children who received their admission letters recently or this year but couldn’t process them due to financial constraints are advised to key in.
Highlighting further, he said those who merited admission by attaining their required cut–off marks but were denied admission based on connection should equally apply. At the same time, he advised applicants to be mindful of their studies because there would be a monitoring team that would frequently monitor their activities in school.
While thanking God for his grace upon Dr. Chukwuma who has exercised uncommon quality by the magnitude of his benevolence, Bro Ikegwuonu enjoined all the concerned parents to leverage this opportunity to give their children sound education.
It is worth recalling that Bro. Ikegwuonu assumed the leadership of AMSPDA about two years ago through a fiercely contested election. This reporter has ascertained that he has recorded huge achievements namely provision of two soundproof generators estimated at about N10,000,000 to control noise pollution in the market, renovation of the dilapidated market convenience barely three months in office. His other impacts are the annual organization of charity activities, amicable resolution of conflicts among traders, inter-locking the entire AMSPDA; making it the only fully interlocked market in Anambra State.
