Education1.3 Million Candidates Write NECO Internal Examination In Nigeria In 2021

YOLA — The Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, has said no fewer than 1.3 million candidates are currently writing the council’s internal examination nationwide.

Prof. Wushishi said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, said he was in the state to monitor the conduct of NECO’s ongoing Senior Secondary School Examination nationwide.

Among the schools visited during the monitoring were Federal Government Girls’ College and Aliyu Mustapha College, both in Yola.

NECO boss recalled that in 2020, about 1.1 million candidates sat for the examination, adding that the increment of students was a testimony to the recognition and acceptability growth of NECO.

“And one of my cardinal objectives as Registrar of the council is to ensure the council achieves the international standard recognition and acceptability,” Wushishi said.

The registrar said the examination body had put in place many mechanisms to protect the integrity and standard of the examination as well as to check the activities of saboteurs and other criminals.

Prof. Wushishi said very soon, NECO would introduce computer-based examination.

“And one of my cardinal objectives as Registrar of the council is to ensure the council achieve the international standard recognition and acceptability,” he said.
