KANO — The Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, records 1,000 childbirth monthly and offers antenatal services to over 450 women and over 7,000 outpatients’ cases daily.

Chief Medical Director of the hospital Hussaini Muhammad who disclosed this said that the facility records 1000 deliveries, with about 250 cesarean sessions on a monthly basis.

Muhammad was speaking at a special event to honour 22 staff for outstanding performance, said the event was organised to appreciate and acknowledge hardworking staff who performed wonderfully in improving quality service delivery in the hospital.

He said the hospital was established in 1926 with a 15-bed capacity, but now it has about 10,000 beds.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner for Health, Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, noted that the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital is the largest public hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He said the event was in line with the Ganduje-led administration’s resolve to organize a state-wide presentation of awards to the deserving facilities and best performing health workers.

“We know how relentless His Excellency is. We know how steadfast he is, most especially in healthcare provision to the teeming Kano indigenes, people of neighbouring states, and even those from neighbouring countries as well,” he said.
