NSUKKA, (Enugu State) — A group under the aegis of Nsukka Youths General Assembly (NYGA), that has its membership from Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, says the assembly will complement state government efforts to ensure youths in the area are empowered.
Mr. Roy Ekwueme the National President disclosed this in Nsukka on Monday while briefing newsmen on NYGA forthcoming Economic youth empowerment summit in Nsukka.
Ekwueme said that the aim of the summit was to train and empower youths in the district to be self-reliant and job creators.
“The aim of the summit is to train and empower youths especially graduates that have no job so as to reduce unemployment in the area.
“We know that that government can not do it alone that is why, we are creating opportunities to help empower more youths in the area,” he said.
According to the national president, the assembly had taken an audit of youths in the district and know youths in the area that have something doing and those that have not as well as those who have little businesses that needed financial support.
“Through the assistance and connections of illustrious sons and daughters of the district living in the country and diaspora, some banks have indicated interest to help.
” commercial banks,  banks of industry and agric banks have accepted to be part of the summit as well as grant soft loans for trained youths to start their business.
“These experts from different banks will not only grant loans but guide and monitor beneficiaries to ensure that business set up for trained youths to succeed, ” he said.
Ekwueme said that the summit that would hold on Dec 3,  at Princess Alexandra Auditorium, University of Nigeria Nsukka would be chaired by Prof Osita Ogbu,  former Chief Economic Adviser to Ex-president  Olusegun Obasanjo.
He also said that the  theme of the summit would be “Growing Nsukka through Home Investment: Aku Rue Ulo”
“Nsukka is a geopolitical District with ever-increasing manpower as well as untapped economic potentials in public-private partnership.
“inadequate private sector investment is responsible for not having enough employment opportunities which in turn fuels youth’s restiveness.
“The idea is to expose every investment opportunity in Nsukka to potential investors and leverage on Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as a proud son of Nsukka to sensitize our people and others to start investing in Nsukka,
“The summit will be economic development blueprint of youths in  Nsukka zone as financial experts and other resource persons will make presentations,” he said.
Ekwueme announced that Mr. Onyekachi Ugwu, former Caretaker Chairman of Udenu LGA and Mr Jonathan Chukwuma, a Senior Special Assistant to Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Inter-party Affairs would be chairman and co-chairman respectively of the  6-man Local Organisng Committee for the summit.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that all executive members of NYGA were present during the briefing.
