YOLA — Lamido Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa has challenged members of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to use the institution in the fight against crime and vices in the society through dissemination of factual information.

The Lamido gave the challenge Thursday in his palace in Yola while playing host to Adamawa state committee on citizens’ summit of the Institute led by its chairman Prof Abubakar Abba Tahir.

The Royal Father who was represented by Galadima Adamawa, Alhaji Mustapha Aminu noted the important role played by the institute made up of professionals in the media industry.

“You are aware of the numerous responsibilities and expectations of the general public towards providing solutions to our challenges using media for information.”

“In this current age, the most important tool towards fighting crime and other social vices is through factual information, I urged you to use it effectively in achieving a crime free society.” Lamido said.

Dr. Barkindo while expressing appreciation for the visit assured the continued support of the Emirate to planning committees at all levels.

Earlier, the Chairman of the peace summit in Adamawa, Prof Abubakar Abba Tahir said the citizens’ summit became necessarily so as to contribute in proffering solutions to issues challenging the country and it will be hold at State, Zonal and National levels.

“These challenges are even leading to agitation for breakaway, other part of the country are calling for secession, so many crises in the land, in the past there are few areas that we hear on crisis, but now everywhere there is crises, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, theft, Boko Haram, Niger-Delta agitation and so on and so forth, there is no part of Nigeria that is not affected.”

“Every Nigerian feels that he is shortchanged, everybody is complaining, every tribe is complaining, every section of the country is complaining so much so that the country has reached a position of everybody is calling for beak away, even part of the country that we do not hear about breakaway are saying lets break away.”

“Every Nigeria is a critical stakeholder of finding solutions, so that this country can come back as one indivisible entity, after 61 years of Nation it is too late for Nigeria to say it is time break away, to go where,” he queried.

Tahir who hold the traditional title of Kakaaki Adamawa explained that the state chapter of NIPR was mandated to create a planning committee for citizens’ summit that will bring stakeholders from all walks of life to come together and develop a blueprint that will be taken to the zonal level.

He said the blueprint will be carry to Gombe where other states in the Northeast will bring their own blueprint, adding that at zonal levels stakeholders will sit and talk, openly, directly, frankly, fluently so that whatever became the result of the zonal level of the citizen summit will be presented to the National level in Abuja.

Tahir stated that the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is a professional association that has the responsibility of connecting relationship amongst people, organizations, citizens, and governments, maintained that there is no organizations either public or private that has no spokesman.

The committee chairman noted that they cannot succeed without the support, encouragement, guidance of the royal father being the custodian of the peoples’ culture.

Highpoint of the visit was presentation of action programme of the summit to representative of Lamido Adamawa by the leader of the delegation Prof Tahir.
