Anambra ElectionsINEC Declares Anambra Election Inconclusive, SPO Absconds With 41 Result Sheets

AWKA — A Supervisory Presiding Officer in the gubernatorial election in Anambra State has absconded with 41 result sheets.

Dr. Gabriel Odor, Collation Officer of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra, announced this at the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka, the state capital, during the collation of results on Sunday.

Odor, who is a lecturer at the University of Calabar, said because of the development, elections could not hold in the affected areas.

But, even with the absconded results, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APGA), won in Idemili South.

He polled a total of 2,312 votes to defeat Mr. Valentine Ozigbo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who had 2,016 votes, and Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 1,039 votes.

Meanwhile, Professor Florence Obi, Returning Officer for the Anambra Governorship Election and vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar has declared the election inconclusive.

Obi made the declaration at INEC head office in Awka, Anambra capital, in the wee hours of Monday after the collation of results from 20 LGAs, said election did not hold in Ihiala LGA because INEC could not deploy electoral materials to the area owing to security concerns.

She cited relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2010 and other regulations of the electoral umpire; explained tha the final outcome of the Anambra governorship election could not be determined except with the result of Ihiala LGA.

Obi announced that a supplementary election will hold in the local government area tomorrow, (Tuesday), November 9, 2021 in order to conclude the whole exercise.

 “I, Prof. Florence Obi, with the power vested on me as the returning officer, hereby suspend the collation and announcement of any result until elections are conducted in 320polling units in the Ihiala local government.”

“The supplementary election will take place on Tuesday 9th November,” she said.

Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured the highest votes in Saturday’s election.

Announcing the votes of all the candidates, Prof. Obi said Soludo of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled a total of 103,946 votes, followed by Mr Valentine Ozigbo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who had 51,322 votes while Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 42,942 votes.

There were a total of 246,638 registered voters and 241,090 accredited voters in the election.

The total valid votes stood at 229,521 while rejected votes were 7,841.

A total of 237,362 votes were cast in the election.
