HealthWellness40 People Died Of Lassa Fever

ABUJA — Lassa fever has claimed the lives of 40 Nigerians within the first four weeks of 2022 in 43 Local Government Areas across 14 States of the country, out of a total of 211 persons that were confirmed infected within the period.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this in its latest Lassa fever Situation Report Epi Week 4:24 – 30 January 2022, noted that there were 981 suspected cases against 507 cases recorded within the same period in 2021.

The report shows that in week 4, January 24 – 30, 229 suspected cases were recorded, 42 confirmed while six fatalities occurred in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Enugu, and Delta States.

The statement showed that the number of new confirmed cases decreased from 74 in week 3, 2022  to  42 cases in week 4.

Cumulatively from week 1 to week 4, 2022, 40 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 19.0 per cent which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (22.2 per cent).
