YOLA — Over 120,400 out-of-school children would be enrolled in schools in Adamawa state under the partnership between the Adamawa State Government and Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) across the 21 local government areas in 2022.

Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri dropped the hint on Thursday on Thursday while launching 2022 enrolment of out-of-school children into BESDA non-formal learning centres held in Mayo Belwa local government area.

“Through the BESDA Programme alone in 2021, Adamawa State was able to reduce its number of out-of-school children by 51, 205 in twelve local government areas.

“Government has involved traditional institutions in the crusade based on the belief that the royal fathers have a lot to contribute, not only in the educational sector, but also in agriculture, health, and other sectors.

“The only way of ensuring peace and stability in the state and beyond is to dealt with the out-of-school syndrome,” Fintiri said.

The Governor then called on all the people of Adamawa to join his administration in dealing with the out-of-school syndrome.

In his message, Lamido Adamawa Dr. Muhammdu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa represented by Galadima Adamawa, Alhaji Mustafa Aminu lauded Governor Fintiri for transforming the state in the areas of education and infrastructure among others.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital development, Mrs Wilbina Jackson, State Coordinator of BESDA, Dr. Muhammad Degereji called on parents to enroll their children in schools and desist from sending them to hawk.

According to them, the programme aim is to reduce the menace of out-of-school children, improve literacy, strengthen accountability and transparency among others.

The Chairman Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board Dr. Salihi Ibrahim Ateequ noted that with the commitment of the present administration, the menace of out-of-school children will soon be history.
