ENUGU — Following the rising insecurity in Enugu State as witnessed in the just concluded Local Government election, the Enugu State Government has banned the operations of tricycle (Keke), Motorcycle (Okada), and Tipper-Trucks in Nkanu East LGA, Nkanu West LGA, and selected communities in Enugu South LGA.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the order was a decision reached at the emergency security council meeting held in Enugu State Government House with relevant stakeholders on the 24th of February, 2022.
Executive Order No.1: 2022 dated 24th February 2022 states, “the operations of Tricycles popularly called Keke, Motorcycles are otherwise known as Okada, Tipper Truck have been banned forthwith in the following areas in the state.”
The areas banned include all communities in Nkanu East and Nkanu West LGA and in 14 communities/neighborhood in Enugu South LGA.
The communities/neighborhood in Enugu South LGA are Amechi
Uno, Amechi Awkunanaw, Amechi Uwani, Obeagu Main, Obeagu Uno, Centenary City/Obunagu, Obeagu, One day, Garki, Akwuke, Ugwuaji, Ndiagu Onunyo, Maryland and Ikiriki.
“Members of the public are to comply with this Order as Security Agencies in the State have been directed to enforce it,” the statement reads.
