Wizkid, Femi Kuti and his son, Made Kuti have been defeated in the battle to win the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards.
At the televised event held at the MGM Arena, Las Vegas on Sunday night, Wizkid, Femi Kuti, and Made Kuti lost out in two categories: Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.
Wizkid was nominated for Best Global Music Performance category for Essence, his collaboration with Tems, alongside Femi Kuti’s Pa Pa Pa, Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy’s Do Yourself and Arooj Aftab’s Mohabbat.
Wizkid’s Made In LagosLegacy + by Femi and Made Kuti, Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature and Rocky Dawumi’s Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1 were up in the Best Global Music Album category.
However, the Nigerian music stars lost both nominations as the Best Global Music Performance award was won by the Pakistani vocalist, Arooj Aftab’s Mohabbat, while Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature won the Best Global Music Album award.
Meanwhile, Wizkid’s loss came as a surprise to many who had predicted a double win for the singer in both categories.
Many Nigerians, especially Wizkid FC have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment at the huge loss.
