YOLA — Adamawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday declared the seat of the member representing Michika state constituency, Mr. Joseph Ayuba Kwada vacant for defecting from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration of the seat followed a constitutional matter raised on the floor of the house by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Pwamwakeno Mackondo (PDP-Numan) citing section 109 sub-section 1 ‘G’ of the 1999 constitution as amended urged the house to declare the seat of the lawmaker vacant.
The Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, who presided over the session and based on the evidence presented by the Deputy Speaker Mackondohe therefore declared the seat of the lawmaker vacant by virtue of leaving his party he was elected to be a member.
The Speaker then directed the Clerk of the house to inform relevant authorities including INEC of the house decision.
Thereafter, the majority leader of the house Hammantukur Yettisuri of Jada/Mbulo constituency move a motion for the adjournment on 1st August 2022 and was unanimously supported by the lawmakers present during the sitting.
