ENUGU — In Enugu, 260 youths have benefitted from Enugu State Government agricultural intervention; the beneficiaries picked across the 17 Local Government Areas in the state embarked on an all-expense trip to CSS Global Farms Keffi, in Nasarawa state.

The young farmers are to be trained in modern agriculture for 2 weeks at the agricultural training facility in Keffi and as projected by the state government, they are expected to become business entrepreneurs with high standard of operations in the agricultural value chain.

“The training is part of the concerted efforts of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration to encourage and empower the youths to gain agricultural experience in line with international best practices,” Engr Michael Ogbuekwe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture said while addressing the participants at Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, before their departure to Keffi.

Ogbuekwe further stated that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is committed to agricultural development in Enugu State as well as efficient and effective involvement of majorly the youths and other indigenes of the state in modern agriculture.

The Special Adviser further enjoins the beneficiaries to learn modern techniques in agriculture so as to replicate the same in Enugu State.

He pointed out that agriculture contributes greatly to the GDP of national, state, and local economies and so, Government of Enugu State desires and plans that rural communities to become the engine room of economic development in the state.

Ogbuekwe further stated, “We expect to see our youths keying into the Central Bank of Nigeria programmes, state Grants, among others, to develop into successful agro businessmen and women.”

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chidiebere Emehelu, an entrepreneur in food processing, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for giving them the rare opportunity to develop their agro skills.

The training Emehelu said will offer them a veritable platform to become more knowledgeable and transmit the same practice so as to add Enugu State in the map of food production in Nigeria in particular and Africa at large.
