The casual workers engaged by the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) as street sweepers on Monday in Gombe metropolis staged a peaceful protest over unpaid three months’ stipends.

The workers, who protested at the main entrance of the Government House, pleaded with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to direct the sanitation agency to pay them their accumulated salaries for three months.

The casual workers were before working under a private firm, INEX Cleaners, but later engaged by GOSEPA sometime in April 2022, following the expiration of the firm’s contract.

The General Manager of GOSEPA, Muhammad Ahmed Kumo, who addressed the protesters, attributed the delay in payment to some administrative challenges.

He pledged that their entitlements would be paid within three days, as efforts were being made to address the problem.
