PORT HARCOURT — On Friday, three governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met with the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

The governors — Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos — visited the private residence of the governor, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The details of the closed-door meeting are not yet known but it might be connected with the 2023 presidential election.

This event is amid speculation that the Rivers State Governor is displeased that he wasn’t selected as the PDP vice presidential candidate.

Wike, one of the leaders of the PDP, is expected to back his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, but there are also speculations over the possibility of Wike defecting from the PDP after losing the party’s presidential and vice-presidential tickets.

Although the Rivers governor had lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar, he was said to be the preferred candidate chosen by a panel for the vice-presidential slot.

But Abubakar eventually chose Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta, as his running mate.

A PDP chieftain, former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose, was also at the meeting.
