LAGOS — The Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in the Ikeja area of the state has convicted Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, of sexually assaulting a minor.

The embattled actor, who was arraigned on June 24, 2021, has been in a protracted legal battle after he was said to have sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl.

He was arraigned before the court on a six-count charge of sexual assault by penetration, indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo found Baba Ijesha guilty of counts 2, 3, 4 and 5: indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault.

The Judge, however, discharged and acquitted him of counts 1 and 6: sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration. According to him, the prosecution could not prove those offenses.

Justice Taiwo, thereafter, sentenced him to 16 years imprisonment.
