Nigerian afrobeat queen, Tiwa Savage, has been conferred with an honorary doctorate in music at the University of Kent, United Kingdom.

The Somebody’s Son crooner was recognised for her ‘inspirational and international music career’  at the Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent on Friday.

The university, Tiwa Savage’s alma mater, had earlier announced that the singer, born Tiwatope Savage, would be among the ten honorary graduands at this year’s congregation ceremonies at Canterbury and Rochester cathedrals.

“Kent alumna Tiwa Savage, [who] will be made Doctor of Music in recognition of her inspirational and international career in music (Canterbury 15 July),” the university wrote on its website on Friday, 1 July.

Sharing the singer’s photos in academicals during the ceremony on Twitter, the school wrote: “Congratulations Dr @TiwaSavage! We’re super proud to have awarded the Queen of Afrobeats an honorary doctorate at Canterbury Cathedral this morning.

The school also shared a video of the afrobeat superstar’s message to the Class of 2022 on their Twitter page.

“Yo. What up class of 2022. This is Dr Tiwa Savage, and I just want to say a huge, huge congratulations to all of you. Well done. I am super proud. And I want you to go out there, have fun, kill it. Be the best you that you can be because you truly deserve it,” Tiwa Savage said in the video.
