Bayo Lawal has been sworn-in as the new deputy governor of Oyo State, following the impeachment of Rauf Olaniyan, by the State House of Assembly on Monday.

The swearing in and oath of office taking, was held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, in Ibadan.

The former deputy governor was impeached after the house adopted the report of the seven man panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate him over allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety, while in office.

In his remark at the event, Gov. Seyi Makinde said the position of the deputy governor was that of trust, saying together they will move the people of the state from poverty to prosperity.

“The position of a deputy governor is a position of trust, our masters are the people of Oyo State and our responsibility is to serve them with the best of our ability and deliver good governance to them.

“Let me encourage you to put the interest of the people of Oyo State first, our people expect so much from us because to whom much is given much is expected.

“We will continue to work for the good people of Oyo State, your Excellency, I will look forward to benefiting from your worth of wisdom and experience, we want to move our people from poverty to prosperity,” he said.

Speaking with reporters shortly after the swearing in, Lawal said he had come to complement the achievements of the administration in the last three years, adding that the new task would be delivered with full trust and loyalty to the government of Oyo State.

“I have come to complement the achievement of this administration in the last three years.

“The build up to this event is hard work, constitutionally the position of deputy governor is meant to assist the governor, to advice, and to be a co-traveler with the governor of a state.

“Is a position of trust, trust to the constitution, trust to the governor, and I must not abuse the privilege, it is a challenge to me and to all of us in Oyo State to cooperate with the view of moving oyo state forward,” Lawal stated.

The 68 years old newly sworn in deputy governor, was a former Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of the State under the administration of late Ex-Governor Lamidi Adeshina between 1999-2003.
