The Ebonyi state government has suspended the payment of pensions to retirees due to the discovery that some deceased pensioners were still being paid pensions in the state.

State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji while briefing newsmen explained that this was part of the resolutions reached at this week’s State Executive Council meeting held at Government House Abakaliki.

He noted that as a result of the discovery had led to over continuous increase in the wage bill, and corrected the anomalies, “The council had approved a revalidation and verification exercise for all pensioners beginning with retired Permanent Secretaries and Directors in the state, he said”.

The Council, according to the Commissioner also approved the establishment of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission and mandated the Attorney General of the State to draft a Law for the Commission.
