NewsHouse Of Representatives Summons Minister of Finance Over Fuel Subsidy

For failure to appear before the House of Representatives Special Ad-hoc committee investigating the petroleum subsidy, the committee has summoned the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

The committee issued the summoned at the investigative hearing after the minister send, the ministry’s Director of Home Finance Mr. Stephen Okon to represent her.

The representative of the Minister pleaded for an extension of time to collate information required before the committee, explained that he was not mandated to make any presentation before the committee.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Ibrahim Aliyu, said the committee wants the Minister to make available before it all documents relating to subsidy claims from 2013 to date.

 Aliyu, said the committee had given the Minister up till next week Tuesday to make herself available with all the relevant documents in subsidy claims.

“It is worrisome the recent statement by the minister that the country will require N6.7 trillion to service subsidy.

“The minister must provide answers to the total amount released from the consolidated revenue account as subsidy payment from 2013 to date,” he said.

The committee chairman stated that the breakdown of benefitting companies that received subsidy payments from the consolidated revenue account must also be submitted.
