Jigawa State Hisbah Board has seized 384 bottles of alcoholic drinks in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Muhammad Sale Korau, in a statement on Monday, said the personnel, while on patrol led by the state commandant, Ibrahim Dahiru, succeeded in apprehending the alcohol on the route from Katsina State to Kazaure town.

Korau said one person was arrested in connection with smuggling the alcoholic drinks into the state.

Confirming the arrest on Friday, the Hisbah commander in the state, Ibrahim Dahiru, said the suspect was arrested with 384 assorted bottles of alcoholic drinks in his car.

“The suspect was arrested at the popular ‘Gardar Kazaure’ area with the 384 bottles in his Toyota Hilux car. The suspect was arrested following a report on his activities in the area,” News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted him as saying.

Dahiru said the suspect and items confiscated was handed over to the police for further investigation and would be charged to court for prosecution while stressing that the consumption of alcohol remains prohibited in all parts of Jigawa and urged residents to be law-abiding.

He further commended the residents of the community for their cooperation with the Hisbah and support in the fight against immoral acts and social vices in Jigawa.
