The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Traffic Management Agency – ATMA. The appointment which was announced today was received in many quarters as a well-deserved appointment.
Engr. Emeka Okonkwo –more popularly known as “Konti”, served briefly as the Transition Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government within which time he distinguished himself, as both one of the youngest Transition Chairmen and also one of the most hardworking and people-oriented. He has sort to represent Dunukofia in the State Assembly twice, albeit unsuccessfully. However, before his stint as Transition Chairman of Dunukofia, Konti had a team that he led to clear traffic at the most terrible traffic-prone junctions along Awka-Onitsha old road. This he does everywhere across the state. As TC chairman, he got more youths involved in that process and has continued to do so as part of his community service till date.
Towards the tail end of Governor Obiano’s administration, Konti served as the head of Anambra State Youth Development Agency.
His appointment by Prof. Soludo to head the management of traffic agency in Anambra State could not have come at a better time. There is no doubt that Engr. Okonkwo is passionate about traffic management and he knows what to do, having done it on his own without any kind of motivation or formal assignment. The consensus among those who are conversant with Konti’s community service, is that Prof. Soludo has one of his best appointments in Engr. Emeka Okonkwo as head of ATMA.
He is a Technical Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano’s Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, whoonce was a Special Adviser to a former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly. Ebuka is a second class upper division graduate of Political Science from University of Calabar, Calabar Nigeria and holds a Masters Degree in Political Science with specialization in Government and Development Studies, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Nigeria
