Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has joined other leaders across the globe to commiserate with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and the entire Commonwealth to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II who died on Thursday at her country home in Scotland.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity in a statement on Thursday said the President received with immense sadness, the news of the passing of the Queen.

The statement reads in part: “modern Nigeria will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth ll, describing her as an outstanding leader who dedicated her life to making her nation, the Commonwealth, and the entire world a better place.

 “My family and I, and the more than 200 million Nigerians have learned with immense sadness of the passing of the Queen and the end of her unique and wonderful 70-year reign. Her late Majesty was the only British Sovereign known to 90 percent of our population. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and the entire Commonwealth as we join the entire world in mourning her loss’’.

President Buhari welcomed the ascension of King Charles III to the throne in line with tradition and prayed he will witness the continuing robust and sisterly relations between the two nations.

And from the South American country, Brazil, the government declared 3-days of mourning in honor of the late Queen, “Official mourning is declared throughout the country, for three days, starting on the date of publication of this decree, as a sign of sorrow for the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the decree states.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-serving monarch in British history and her death, at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign, left football mourning the loss of a lifelong supporter.

Also, British Prime Minister Liz Truss in reaction to the death of Queen Elizabeth II described her as “the very spirit of Great Britain” and the rock on which modern Britain was built.

“Through thick and thin, Queen Elizabeth II provided us with the stability and strength we needed. She was the very spirit of Great Britain – and that spirit will endure. She has been our longest-ever reigning monarch”, the Prime Minister eulogizing the monarch.

In their tribute to the Queen, Former Prime Ministers; Theresa May, Tony Blair

Theresa May said: “It was the honor of my life to serve her as prime minister”, she said the matriarch had witnessed different changes and was able to provide stability and assurance for the kingdom.

“Her Majesty witnessed tremendous change, moving adroitly with the times but always providing stability and reassurance … Our thoughts and prayers now are with her family. God Save The King”.

The erstwhile Prime Minister of Britain, Tony Blair described the shocking development as a loss of “the matriarch of our nation.

“We have lost not just our monarch but the matriarch of our nation, the figure who more than any other brought our country together, kept us in touch with our better nature, personified everything which makes us proud to be British. “We will mourn her. We will miss her.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury; Justin Welby describes his feeling toward the death of the Queen as “profound sadness”, “as we grieve together, we know that, in losing our beloved Queen, we have lost the person whose steadfast loyalty, service, and humility have helped us make sense of who we are through decades of extraordinary change in our world, nation, and society.”

FIFA has also joined mourners as well. In a statement published on its website, FIFA President Gianni Infantino says, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing is a huge loss to football, to our society, and the world”.

“To our sport, the Queen was present in England’s proudest footballing moment, when she presented the Jules Rimet trophy to Bobby Moore after winning the 1966 FIFA World Cup”.
