AWKA — The Anambra State Governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2021 General Election, Valentine Ozigbo, has said that the 2023 Presidential Election “is almost like the last chance God has given us.” Speaking earlier on Saturday while in a live TV conversation on Politics Now hosted by Ebuka Onyekwelu for Obi-Datti TV, Valentine Ozigbo said that the clamour for Peter Obi to become the next president of Nigeria, by Nigerians of different backgrounds, is a pointer that the country is at a very low ebb and requires imminent rescue operation.

Valentine Ozigbo who has earned a mark as a youth-friendly politician, an articulate and focused man, conversations about 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria must be about how to fix Nigeria. “We must think of how to rescue our country. We must zero down to what is important in politics.”

Still talking about Nigeria’s politics, he hammered on the recruitment process of Nigeria’s political leaders, pointing out that it is essential to fix Nigeria’s recruitment process for public offices so that the country’s political leadership can be fixed. For Ozigbo, if Nigeria’s political recruitment processes are not strengthened such that it does not allow certain kinds of people to get by, then, Nigeria will hardly get its leadership crisis addressed. “If you have bought your candidacy with money, by the time you emerge, your hands would have been tied.” he said.

In his support for Peter Obi, Val Ozigbo attested to Peter Obi’s competency, character, and readiness to serve the people of Nigeria, while also emphasizing that those were the major reasons he is strongly in support of Peter Obi to become the next president of Nigeria.

Speaking during the conversation, particularly commenting on INEC’s trustworthiness to conduct a free, fair and credible election in 2023, Val Ozigbo opined that INEC has not been an ideal unbiased umpire in our democratic experiment. He however conceded that INEC has made a lot of improvements.

However, “INEC is not a saint yet,” Ozigbo cautioned while reminding INEC that people are watching and that Nigerians believe that INEC will do the right thing but they are not leaving it at that.

In his concluding remarks, Valentine Ozigbo expressed total confidence in Peter Obi’s emergence as Nigeria’s president in 2023, purely on the basis of Peter Obi’s credibility, suitability, and competency, rather than anything else.
