Anambra State Government has sealed- off some establishments operating in Awka and Onitsha, over noncompliance with tax payments.
No fewer than twelve hotels, banks and companies were sealed through the Anambra State Internal Generated Revenue Services, (AIRS) following a court order to seal off the business premises.
Prominent among the facilities sealed were, Awka Microfinance bank, AC Peterson Electronics Showroom, Quintana Suites, ANIDS transport company, Obalende and Kasorina hotels all in Awka, while AIICO Insurance American International and PZ Cussons Nigerian PLC all in Onitsha were also among
It was gathered that levies were mainly those of usiness premises, sanitation and sundry government taxes.
According to the Head of Department, Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement of the A.I.R.S, Mrs Eberechukwu Ezekigbo told newsmen after the enforcement, that the exercise was made following refusal or failure to appear in court, after being served with a court summons, in which court gave the order to seal off the establishments.
She said the exercise was necessary in order to boost the state’s revenue, and to ensure that every dime owned to the state government is paid.
On his part, the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service’s desk officer in charge of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr. James-Morgan Ezeodili, charged ndi Anambra to be tax compliance as the State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo is ever ready to foster development, hence work would be made easier with their tax payment.
