ABUJA — As part of the activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary, President Muhammadu Buhari conferred national honours on deserving Nigerians at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Tuesday.

The national honours conferred were: Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Others include Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), and the Federal Republic Medal (FRM).

Six persons were conferred with GCON, 55 persons received the CFR award, 65 got the CON award, and 77 persons were presented with the OFR.

For the OON award, there were 110 recipients; the MFR award had 74 recipients, and the MON award had 55 recipients.

There were four recipients each for the Federal Republic Medal I (FRM I) and Federal Republic Medal II (FRM II). Seven foreigners received the OFR award.

Among the 74 awardees for the MFR is Damini Ogulu, the award-winning artiste popularly known as Burna Boy.

Similarly, among the 55 awardees for the MON include veteran musician, Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba; and talented Dr. Dolor Entertainment artiste, Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni.

The award is in recognition of their giant strides in the Nigerian music industry and their services to the country in various capacity.
