NewsAnambra State House of Assembly Resumes, Pays Tribute to Deceased Majority Leader

AWKA — Anambra State House of Assembly has resumed sitting on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, after its yearly recess. This year’s recess was marked by their training in South Africa and the tragedy of losing another member, during the training.

The former Majority Leader of the House was said to have slumped and died in South Africa. Upon resumption, the House could not go into any formal business as a mark of respect for the deceased member, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor, who until his sudden death in South Africa during the training of the members, was the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly.

Only a few days ago, the remains of the deceased Majority Leader of the House was brought back to the country from South Africa, after more than one month after his sudden demise.

In a letter written to the House of Assembly and signed by Engr. Nwachukwu Okafor formally informed members of the House of the decision of the late Hon. Nnamdi Okafor’s family on his burial, family has decided that the deceased burial will be held on the 9th and 10th of December, 2022. The letter which was read by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, also thanked the House for the assistance it has given the family so far, while also seeking more assistance in any way possible.

Motion for adjournment was then moved by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Emeka Aforka, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Onyebuchi Offor and the House was adjourned to Thursday 20th October 2022.

Thereafter, the Speaker and other House members proceeded to sign the condolence register that has been opened at the House of Assembly, for the late Majority Leader of the House.
