ENUGU — Journalists in Enugu have heaved a sigh of relief as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi reconstructs the Journalists’ den of the Press Centre after three decades of neglect.

The NUJ Enugu Press Centre which has been in deplorable condition for years was reconstructed and inaugurated on Friday by the Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; the Centre was renamed after the Governor as Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi NUJ Enugu Press Centre.

Inspecting the facility after the inauguration, Gov. Ugwuanyi, announced additional interventions in the centre; the interventions he said is intended to make the facility more conducive for journalists and the general public.

Describing the intervention as a dream come true, Comrade Sam Udekwe, Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists, Enugu State chapter thanked the State Governor for his benevolence in approving the project.

Applauding the Governor further, Udekwe said, “Your imprints in the centre will remain indelible in the history of journalism profession in Enugu State and the country at large”.

“We sincerely thank you, Your Excellency, for this wonderful intervention. We did not dream of it coming from you. This has been our dream, and today, it is a dream comes true. You have done us proud and we are grateful to you sir,” the NUJ chairman reiterates.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji under whose purview the reconstruction was carried out in his speech revealed that the state government’s intervention was birthed on the day Gov. Ugwuanyi visited the old Press centre which was in shambles.

Describing the intervention so far as project phase one, Engr. Nnaji, disclosed that more interventions is expected; this he said is long overdue as the last intervention at the centre was about three decades ago.

The inauguration was one of the numerous activities lined up in celebration of the 2022 NUJ Enugu Press week.
