Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, MFR, known professionally as Burna Boy, won the award for the ‘best African act’ at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The event took place at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany on Sunday, 13 November 2022.
Burna Boy was nominated in the category alongside Black Sheriff of Ghana; Tanzania’s Zuchu; South African singer, Musa Keys; Ayra Starr and Tems from Nigeria.
Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, was also nominated for the ‘best new act’ category but lost to Seventeen, the 13-member South Korean boy band.
Taylor Swift was the top winner at the 2022 MTV EMAs. The American singer and songwriter clinched four awards: ‘best artiste’, ‘best video’, ‘best pop’ and ‘best long-form video’ for ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)’.
Trinidadian rapper, Nicki Minaj, won the ‘best song’ award for ‘Super Freaky Girl’ and the award for ‘best hip-hop artiste’.
