At the 2022 edition of the American Music Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California on Sunday night, Wizkid won the Favourite Afrobeats Artist.
The Sony Music/RCA artiste was nominated in the category alongside Burna Boy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy DML.
The award for the Favourite R&B Song also went to his Tems-assisted Essence. Essence competed with Beyoncé’s Break my soul, Muni Long’s Hrs and Hrs, Silk Sonic’s Smokin’ out the window, and Sza’s I hate you.
On her part, Tems was named the joint winner of the Favourite Hip-Hop Song category for her role in Future’s Wait For You, which also features Drake.
Taylor Swift, who clinched six awards, emerged the Artist of the Year, Favourite Female Pop Artist and Favourite Female Country Artist.
While Kendrick Lamar clinched the Favourite Male Hip-Hop Artist prize, Nicki Minaj won the award in the female category.
Chris Brown won the award for the Favourite Male R&B Artist and the award for the Favourite Female R&B Artist went to Beyoncé.
