The Joint Security Team set up to combat the nefarious activities of suspected herders in Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Nigeria has confirmed the killing of persons and burning of goods and truck conveying those persons at Umuhu in Eha-Amufu community of the Local Government Area, along Eha-Amufu/Nkalagu Road, Enugu State; the number of deceased persons unspecified.

Visiting the scene of the attack, the team confirmed that the burnt truck was conveying goods and persons not firearms, ammunition, and militants as rumored in the state.

The rumors he said are baseless, misleading and an act capable of creating unnecessary panic and escalating the situation in the area; “creators and peddlers of such fake news should desist forthwith, or be made to face the full wrath of the law if apprehended.” Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani warned.

Joint security team at Eha-Amufu

Commiserating with the families of the deceased, the CP assures the Eha-Amufu community of the team’s readiness to employ all tactics to combat the crisis.

He further revealed that operational and intelligence resources have been deployed to the area and the State CID ordered to thoroughly investigate the incident, harmonize ongoing investigations into other recent criminal incidents in the community and come up with actionable findings.

“The Police, with the active support and collaboration of other security agencies, will leave no stone unturned in fishing out the assailants and perpetrators of all attacks and murder in the area,” CP reiterates.

“The Joint Security Agencies have vowed to deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to decisively deal with the untoward security breaches in the area,”

“We however enjoin Eha-Amufu community to remain law-abiding, cooperate with the Joint Security Team and avoid acting in ways that could further breach public security and peace in the area.”

The team that visited the scene of attack: the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani; the 82 Division Garrison Commander of the Nigerian Army Enugu, Brig. Gen. M. K. Ibrahim; DCP Olasoji Akinbayo in-charge of Operations; DCP Fidelis Ogarabe in-charge of the State CID Enugu and other Senior Police and Military Officers.

The Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Obiora Obeagu, also was in the company of the team.
