A UK-based media outfit has been accused by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) of being determined to aggravate the security issues in Nigeria.

The media house recently released a report where it made allegations against the Nigerian Army of secret abortion clinics in the country’s North East.

The report has generated a lot of comments in the country in which many individuals and organizations have kicked against the report by the media house.

HURIWA noted that “it is now very glaring that the news agency has an agenda to destroy the Nigerian military by weakening its anti-terror war.

In a statement on Friday, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko called on the International Criminal Court, ICC, to move for the arrest and prosecution of the editors of the news service immediately.

HURIWA noted that recently, it warned that some foreign elements were fanning the embers of hatred against the Nigerian Army and peddling false news against the security agency.

“The editors are complicitous by refusing to expose the purported secret and illegal abortion programme in the North-East zone since 2013. For this reason, the editors should be arrested and prosecuted by ICC in The Hague for war crimes.

“It is on record that a UK-based NGO, Marie Stopes International Organisation Nigeria confessed that the organization averted unintended pregnancies in 59,452 women in Borno between 2021 and the first quarter of 2022.

“Reuters is complicitous to have generated a report about what it calls abortion clinics in North East since 2013 but kept it to itself,” HURIWA said.

“It should be prosecuted by the ICC. Editors of Reuters should be arrested and prosecuted by the ICC.

“Reuters has agenda to destroy Nigeria’s war on terror by peddling the disjointed allegations against the Army,” Onwubiko said.
